PostSubject: Zeke's Videos   Thu Oct 23, 2008 12:32 pm

I'll be posting all my vids here. I don't have a dedicated video camera so most, if not all, footage will be coming off my digital still camera, a Canon S5 IS. The majority of them will be short solo practice clips and maybe the occasional game highlight. Feel free to leave any comments or tips.

These are my first few attempts at Toe Flips and video editing. Footage is from early August, right after I fell off my bike and got some nasty road rash

Link to the follow up video. For whatever reason I could not embed into this post. The swing is feeling more natural so here I'm trying to see how high high I can reach and how hard I can hit the target. There are also a bunch of attempts of a sweep variation using my inside. Does that have a name? Sweep flips?

So this is the follow up to the first vid that I posted. Finally managed to get the code right. Anyways, its more footage of toe flips (and sweep variations) from the same day. I have yet to hit this spike (for a kill) during a game. One thing I have noticed for this and toe jams is that I'm squared up to the bag, I think I need to turn farther away to get a bigger swing. I could probably tilt my body a little more sideways for some extra height. Hopefully that will come with more practice. Any tips would be welcomed.

Let's see a video of you actually hitting some hand-tossed footbags with these kicks. That would give me/us a better understanding of how this move is progressing.

Also, let's see some video of your toe reverse.

Spike video on Flickr. I could not upload it to youtube because of some copyright issues. I'll fix that eventually but right now it's not urgent

That sweep motion is looking good, HOWEVER, since you are a short player, a standing sweep may NEVER be a "kill" shot for you. You will always have to hit the shot as a line drive. Conversely, if you learn to do a scissor sweep, you may be able to kick the ball as high as 6.5 or 7 feet, allowing you to go for more downward angles. If I were you I would continue to work the standing version in order to improve your sweep serve, but for the spike, you should begin to devote time to skooling the scissor version. I think you will like it if you stick with it long enough to make contact high with a good follow through after contact.

Most of this is just previous footage slapped together

No spikes here. Just tracking my progress at crossing the plane for the hell of it. In a game, I've probably never reached farther than 1/2 a foot past the net.

Sweep practice from the Spring 09. I hate this damn spike. It looks so freakin' easy but I just can't seem to get the timing and angle right during a game.

Practicing various spikes facing the left side or with my back to the net.

Ronnie and I playing "doubles" net against the wall. Fairly laid back session just trying to get rallies and kills. Five push-ups for every over set. We were over setting so often that we eventually decided to just skip the punishment just to have the energy to finish out the session. Fuckin' terrible.
